County Board of Supervisors, or as set by County Civil Service System in
counties with such a system.
Qualifications
- Medical
Examiner--physician
licensed to practice within the state and a resident of the county or a
neighboring county for which they are appointed.
Deputies
- The Board of
Supervisors may appoint, with the County Medical Examiner's approval, a
Deputy County Medical Examiner, who must be a physician licensed to practice
in Michigan. In Counties with civil service systems, the County Medical
Examiner appoints the Deputy County Medical Examiner. In counties with a
population of one million or more, deputies must be residents of the county
for which they are appointed. In counties with a population of fewer than
one million, deputies must be residents of the county for which they are
appointed or residents of a contiguous county.
Deaths Investigated
- By violence.
- When
unexpected.
- Without
medical attendance during the 48 hours prior to the hour of death unless the
attending physician, if any, is able to determine accurately the cause of
death.
- As the result
of an abortion, whether self-induced or otherwise.
- Of any
prisoner in any county or city jail.
